City of Trent Statement Regarding the Proposed Data Center
To the Citizens of Trent:
The City of Trent is aware of the ongoing public discussion regarding a proposed data center that may be located near our community. This topic has been discussed for several months, and we recognize that it has generated a wide range of opinions among our residents.
The City Council would like to clarify the City's role.
The proposed data center is not located within the City of Trent's corporate limits. Because of this, the City does not have the legal authority to approve, deny, or regulate the project. Decisions regarding the location, permitting, and development of the project fall under the jurisdiction of the appropriate county and other applicable governmental agencies.
Although the City does not have regulatory authority over the proposed project, the City Council will continue to monitor developments and advocate for the best interests of the citizens of Trent whenever opportunities arise.
At this time, the City's only potential involvement would be related to water service, should such a request ever be made. No decision has been made regarding water service, and any future request would be considered by the City Council in accordance with applicable laws, engineering requirements, and the best interests of the City and its citizens.
To the City's knowledge, no final determination has been made regarding whether the proposed project will ultimately move forward.
The City Council encourages residents to rely on verified information rather than rumors or speculation shared through social media. As official information becomes available that directly affects the City of Trent or its residents, it will be posted on the City's official website at https://trent.municipalimpact.com, shared through the City's official Facebook page, and communicated through other official City channels as appropriate.
We appreciate the interest our citizens have in the future of our community. While opinions may differ, we ask everyone to remain respectful of one another as discussions continue.
Respectfully,
Leanna West
Mayor, City of Trent
On behalf of the Trent City Council
